Geranium Bourbon or Geranium Egyptian Essential Oil?

Geranium Essential Oil is a favourite with many Customers.

The scent of Geranium, whether the Bourbon or Egyptian variety is soft and floral, with a hint of Rose. You will find Geranium a very popular ingredient in skincare and therapeutic products.


So how are Geranium Bourbon and Geranium Egyptian different, and which Geranium Essential Oil should you choose for your purpose? 


Geranium Bourbon and Geranium Egyptian

Geranium Bourbon

Geranium Bourbon Scent: 

  • Softer, rose-floral with a hint of herbal scent.

Therapeutic benefits:

  • Helps balance the mind during stress, or sadness.

  • Great for blending with other Essential Oils. 

  • Excellent for all skin types.

  • Helps with menstrual discomfort and emotional ups and downs.

Plant Therapy Geranium Bourbon Essential Oil

Choose Geranium Bourbon if you have the following issues or concerns to address

  • Outdoor: Protect against harmful insects by using Geranium Bourbon as a natural repellent spray. Make a convenient spritzer: combine 1 cup of water, ½ cup of apple cider vinegar, and 30 drops of Geranium Bourbon. Spritz on yourself before heading out. 

  • Emotional regulation during Menstrual Cycles: Add a few drops to your Aromatherapy Diffuser or Aromatherapy Inhaler.

  • Skin Issues: Dilute at 1% in Rosehip Carrier Oil and apply to a clean face for evening skin tone and reducing redness.

  • Topical Application: Dilute in a Carrier Oil at 1% for the face and 2 - 4% for other parts of the body. 

Geranium Egyptian

Geranium Egyptian Scent: 

  • Fresh, green, floral (rose-like) scent.

Therapeutic benefits:

  • Uplifting and helpful for easing tension, worry and stress

  • Helpful to women’s reproductive health

  • Excellent for natural skin care, especially anti-aging

  • Helps soothe and relieve muscle and joint discomfort


Choose Geranium Egyptian if you want to address the following issues or concerns

  • Menstrual Discomfort: blend 3 drops of Geranium Egyptian and 3 drops of Clary Sage in 10mL of Evening Primrose Oil. Massage the abdomen during times of menstrual discomfort. Whilst Evening Primrose further supports alleviating menstrual discomfort, if you don't have Evening Primrose Oil on hand, any good quality Carrier Oil such as Sweet Almond or even Fractionated Coconut Oil would be good for diluting your Essential Oil blend in as well.

  • Anti-age Skin Serum: 3 drops in 10mL Carrier Oil or 24 drops in 30mL of Aloe Vera Gel. A pea size amount onto the skin at night goes a long way.

  • Muscle and Joint Relief: Dilute Geranium Egyptian at a 2-4% in Carrier Oil and apply to affected areas to reduce discomfort and swelling.

  • Topical Application: Dilute in a Carrier Oil at 1% for the face and 2 - 4% for other parts of the body.
